Sleep In 2021!

I’ll be participating in this year’s Sleep In 2021!

March 12 – 14, 2021, Project Sleep will be hosting their 7th Annual Sleep In to raise awareness about sleep health and sleep disorders.

Not gonna lie – this is an event that I’ve been looking forward to since I first started exploring the various narcolepsy resources that were available to me. When I came across articles about previous years’ Sleep In events I was immediately excited to participate in the next one.

This is a topic that (obviously) means a lot to me. In the past year, since receiving my narcolepsy diagnosis, I’ve been through so much. I’ve begun to really grasp the importance of raising awareness, combating misinformation, and finding community. It’s only been a year, and already I’ve had to answer so many of the same misguided questions and deal with so many of the same stigmas. I could never have guessed how tiring it would be to deal with, as if just living with the disease wasn’t tiring enough. Along the way, I’ve gained a greater respect for those dealing with similar diseases and the ways in which my lack of understanding may have caused them pain.

Finding the Project Sleep community has had such a positive impact on my life. Seeing other people who have gone through the same ordeals I have, who experience the same struggles, whose lives are so different and yet so similar to mine. It’s powerful to see that I am not alone, and to have the opportunity to learn from what others have already dealt with. I’m eager to give back to this organization that has had such a profound impact on me.

My goals for participating in the Sleep In 2021 campaign are to accomplish the following:

Raise awareness of the importance of sleep health
Raise $200 for Project Sleep
Educate others about what my life with narcolepsy actually looks like

In celebration, I plan to share loads of content: personal stories, what steps I take to get a good night’s sleep, what I do to make time for rest in my life, and much more. I’m going to share information about the importance of sleep health, and how we can all work together to combat stigmas around rest.
